The “robot” functionality allows the instrument to automatically keep itself in tune.
The Robot Flying V’s body, neck and fretboard is made of mahogany wood, which is complimented by 22 frets with pearl inlays. The construction aids with overall sound and resonance, which best suits this guitar for the metal genre. The robot feature is powered by Gibson’s proprietary “powerhead” tuning heads, which work in conjunction with a built-in CPU that detects the frequency of the strings as they are played. Tuning is done by the computer on the fly, meaning players do not have to worry about perfecting the guitar’s sound on their own. Pickups are of the humbucking variety, and included knobs can control the master, tuning, volume and tone.
