Tascam US-122L

$150.00

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Supports XLR, line-level analog and high-impedance inputs. Good quality for a cheap price. Sufficient for most home studios. Excellent sound playback and recording quality at 96KHz/24-bit.

The Cons:Version 1.12 drivers and firmware on Windows 7 64-bit are unstable. On one machine i get a lot of cracking/popping and the other gives a 0x0006 error while installing. Did not support Windows Vista until Sept. 2007. Poor support from Tascam.

The Tascam US-122L is the follow-up to the popular US-122; it is a portable digital audio interface for connecting micropphones, guitars, MIDI devices and other instruments to your Mac or PC. It accepts two channels of analog input through either an XLR mic input with phantom power or an analog 1/4" line input switchable to high impedance for guitars.

trisweb: #tascam_us_122l Unfortunately this device has horrible support and drivers for Mac OS X. With the 1.12 drivers and older firmware, it worked intermittently. Sometimes had to re-plug USB to get it to detect the device. At times playback would fail in iTunes, Songbird, and VLC, and would have to restart the program to get it to recognize it again.

Upgrading to the 1.12 firmware completely kills the support for the device under Mac OSX. You cannot downgrade the firmware, so I was out of luck. I ended up returning it, though it was a versatile and cool device, it just sadly had horrible drivers for OSX. I got a separate Mixer+USB Audio interface (for cheaper albeit without MIDI), and I'm much happier. Jul 21, 09

Point Fouro: #tascam_us_122l He probably used a windows tool to trick the installer into thinking it was xp. Just a guess, because I've done this before. Google it, that's the most help I can give you. May 27, 09
